About the project

Counterpart Travels is a SYPO project that aims to provide relevant and interesting positions to people who would like to do volunteer work in Uganda. With our experience with development work and extensive network in the region, we can find positions that match your specific interests and abilities, so that your work has much more of an impact. Most volunteers are not placed with SYPO projects, but rather with the best fitting organisation in the region. Counterpart Travels has a lot of experience with various fields of volunteer work, including medical, educational, drama, environmental control, etc.

The placement fee is 200 euros. We can find you suitable local accommodation, or you can stay in our guesthouse 'Besaniya' (photos below and here). All income of Counterpart Travels is used to support SYPO and other projects. Staying in Besaniya costs between 7 and 10 euros a night per person; the kitchen is open for the guests to use. The rooms are basic, and may be shared. The guesthouse is situated on a beautiful hill just outside the centre of Mukono town. With monkeys in the garden and views over Lake Victoria, it is the perfect place to relax after a difficult day and to share experiences with other volunteers.

Counterpart Travels can arrange that you are picked-up from the airport, with a two-night stay in the guesthouse of the small aid organisation ICUganda in Kampala, and a tour through Kampala. This package together (pick-up, stay, tour) costs 45 euros. On the third day, we pick you up in Kampala and bring you to your accommodation, and introduce you to the organisation where you will be doing your volunteer work.
