Photos SYPO microdevelopment

SYPO microdevelopment helps women in the Mukono district to start or expand a small business. With microcredits, SYPO enables women to work for their own development. The loans are given to groups of five women; eacg with their own business plan, and mutually responsible for the weekly repayments. The project can sustain itself with the interest that the women pay for their loan. For live indicators of the project, please check here.

Photos Yoghurt project

Started in 2003, the Yoghurt project gives pregnant Fresian cows to Ugandan women willing to take an orphan in their families, but without the money to do so. SYPO has enabled the local aid organisation Pat the Child to start a small yoghurt factory, which buys the milk from the women and sells yoghurt with a profit, which is used to sustain other projects.

In the project SYPO MediStructures, SYPO trains local volunteers to become 'Village Health Workers'. The trainins, given by European volunteers and local medical staff, are evaluated after half a year; then it is decided where small clinics are needed to further develop primary care in the villages. After SYPO completes the clinics, the local government pays for all salaries, drugs and other operational costs.

Photos Besaniya Guesthouse, SYPO offices and Counterpart Travels

SYPO has its offices and guesthouse on Besaniya hill, just outside the centre of Mukono town. From its office, employees of SYPO microdevelopment keep the administration of the microfinance clients; printing new loan agreements or receiving its loan officers for weekly instructions. The guesthouse is started for volunteers of the project Counterpart Travels, which finds interesting and relevant positions in the SYPO network of organisations for people willing to do volunteer work in Uganda. The project is a perfect opportunity for anyone looking for a unique way to get to know Uganda.
