The work group in the Netherlands
The Yogurt Project was the first project of SYPO, and as a result it does not have the same work group structure as the newer projects. The work group of the Yogurt Project consists of Duko Hopman (also Director of SYPO) and Emma Kandelaars (also financial manager SYPO). Due to the long experience with the project, the Board of SYPO (see SYPO organisation) are more involved on a daily basis in the executive decisions around the project than is the case for the other projects.
Cooperation with Uganda
For the Yogurt Project we founded the for-profit company Life Dairy, which is owned by the foundation Pat the Child, our local partner. The profit of Life Dairy is therefore also owned by the Pat the Child, and profits are spent in agreement with SYPO on new aid projects. The manager of the factory is Fred Kaggwa, who is project leader at Pat the Child. Fred Kaggwa sends monthly accountancy details and progress reports to the work group of SYPO's yoghurt project, so that donors can check proper utilization of funds. The women who have a cow have been united in a cooperative, which maintains contacts with SYPO, for example, to provide training for new members. The cooperative has a two-yearly elected chairman, treasurer and secretary.
